It’s not the hot weather, it’s the menopause!!
A recent Employment Tribunal ruling suggests that the physical and psychological effects of the menopause could constitute a disability.
Legislation currently provides that a person has a disability if that person has a physical or mental impairment which has a ‘substantial and long-term adverse effect on his/her ability to carry out normal day-to day activities’.
Although this recent case reminds us that it is the extent of any particular illness or condition and the effects on the individual that will determine whether the individual could be considered disabled for the purpose of the legislation.
Any one currently experiencing the menopause will appreciate that the hot sweats, sleepless nights, anxiety and brain fog certainly have an impact on all aspects of their daily life!
